My research interests mainly fall within two domains. The first being related to values or, more specifically, how we perceive and relate to the natural environment and how values affect our behaviour. This is an area of research that I pursued through my doctoral studies and, more recently, through project work focusing on how we value forest ecosystem services.
The second area of research relates to international and EU-relevant forest policy and the impact different sectoral interests are having on the forest-based sector. This interest stem from the fact that the EU does not have any competence on forests, which has essentially resulted in a plethora of environmental and industrial policy instruments affecting EU forests. It is this hodgepodge of interests and policy instruments competing over one natural resource that I find interesting to study.
Finally, i should also mention a third area of work, namely, those papers and reports i have published on the Shared Environmental Information System (SEIS). Having managed the UNECE Programme on Environmental Monitoring and Asessment and the UNECE Working Group on Environmental Monitroing and Assessment (WGEMA), I have been involved in reviewing the establishment of SEIS in Europe and Central Asia. This has allowed me the opportunity to publish on SEIS.
